We'll start this walk from the layby on Chunal (A624) near where the Grouse pub used to be. There's a stile near the layby and it's a straight climb, about half way there's a gate and onwards up to the Harry Hut triangulation point.
Harry Hut (440m) is the highest point on Chunal Moor, a heather covered moorland in the Dark Peak, nobody knows who Harry was or where is hut is, there' no sign of either now.
From Harry Hut turn right and follow the path south east, until you reach the paved path to Mill Hill heading east. The wreckage of the B-24J Liberator is about 400m before the summit of Mill Hill.
Near the summit of Mill Hill there are the remains of a B-24J Liberator of the 310th Ferry Squadron, 27th Air Transport Group which crashed on the 11th October 1944. The two crewmen pilot, 2nd Lieutenant Creighton R. Houpt and Flight Engineer Staff Sergeant Jerome M Najvar both survived the crash, they walked along one of the streams until they reached the Hayfield to Glossop road. A passing lorry driver stopped and picked them up and took them to a nearby pub where Lt Houpt telephoned Burtonwood to report the accident. They both had cuts & bruises but Lt Houpt had a broken jaw.
From Mill Hill continue east, after a short distance you'll come to the crossroads for Hayfield / Edale / Snake Inn / Bleaklow, head eat towards Edale on the Pennine Way, straight up to Kinder Scout. Follow the path across the top to Kinder Downfall.
If there has been enough rain and the wind is blowing in the right direction, the water from Kinder Downfall might apear to go up! From the top of Kinder you can see Kinder Reservoir, weather permitting, and just before that Mermaid's Pool.
Time to head back, mostly downhill, you can miss out Harry Hut by staying on the paved path until you raech the main road and then turn right, passed the old Grouse Inn and back to the layby.
Ludwig Wittgenstein an Austrian philosopher, stayed at the Grouse Inn in 1908 while studying and working at Manchester University, he conducted aeronautical research at Chunal during his time as an engineering research student, flying kites into the upper atmosphere. The Grouse Inn closed in 2015 and is now a private house, it's also a Grade II listed building.
